This rug is nearly 150 years old. There is a date in the corner showing more than likely year 1881 which pins it very accurately in the end of 19th century - when majority of original rugs of this type were woven. This is a beautiful example of old Caucasian Gendje rug with boteh motiff. It's currently in excellent condition. It went through professional cleaning revival process plus our team of restorers fixed and secured all the areas needing attention. Overall restoration work was £965. We have pictures of it before it has been restored. There was corner hole/tear, small tear in the pile, sidecord and ends were weak/falling apart. We think it represents a great value for money as there are not many rugs left in this condition and they fetch really high prices being popular not only in Europe but also in the US. Dealers are charging high prices knowing it's a great and safe investment for the new owner.
The town of Gendje located in Soviet Azerbaijan in the late 19th century was an important weaving center between Caucasian Kazak, Karabagh and Shirvan. Rugs woven in this area have influence of geometric patterns of Kazak&Shirvan and often boteh motiffs of popular Karabagh designs.

RETURNS
Our rugs are delivered in a re-useable bag so returns are easy.
If you want to return a rug it's up to you to package it securely and arrange the return by courier. We make a full refund immediately when the rug arrives here in good condition.
If you would like us to make the collection arrangements using our courier service, we make a charge equal to the courier collection cost. It's usually no more than £20 for mainland UK. A bit more for Highlands, Island and Europe. This amount is deducted from the refund that we make on the rugs return.
